Is there any better feeling than looking around your apartments in Greenway Plaza after you’ve done a deep clean? The answer, of course, is no. The world would be a better place if everyone’s apartment always looked like it was just prepped for a magazine shoot. Unfortunately, we don’t have a big enough maintenance team to make that dream a reality. However, we do have a blog, and we’re willing to share some of our tidying up secrets.

It’s really not all that hard to keep your apartment looking good — all you have to do is clear it of clutter. Clutter is the mortal enemy of clean apartment-lovers everywhere. Fortunately, clutter is an easy fix.

Establish a strict rule regarding dirty dishes

Nothing makes your apartment look dirtier than a sink that’s full of dirty dishes. It’s an eyesore in the worst way. For some reason, nobody wants to clean right after eating. However, it gets so much worse if you put it off. Would you rather rinse a dish for 1 minute after dinner or spend 5 minutes scrubbing crusty barbecue sauce off the plate later that evening? Exactly.

Here’s the rule you should drill into your head; dinner isn’t over until your plate is rinsed. It’s a simple rule, but it will probably take you weeks to break the habit of leaving dirty dishes in the sink. Best of luck out there, residents!

Learn to let go of knick-knacks

It’s hard to get rid of little things that have sentimental value, but you shouldn’t leave them out on your dresser or desk. They aren’t knick knacks; they’re dust collectors. Also, they’re impossible to dust properly, which means you’ll never be able to get rid of the dust that’s accumulating on your dresser. If you insist on keeping your knick knacks, at least put them in a box or basket.

Get a hamper with a lid

What do you remember about shopping for your hamper? Anything? That’s probably because you just saw the cheapest hamper on the shelf and threw it in your cart. That’s what most us do, because hampers aren’t exactly the most exciting purchase. However, now you’re stuck with an ugly hamper that’s making your room look more cluttered than it actually is.  

There’s an easy solution to this issue. Go buy a hamper with a lid, and make sure you actually like the way it looks. Now, you’ll never see your dirty clothes while they’re in the hamper. Plus, you’ll know exactly when it’s time to do a load of laundry — just wait until you can’t close the lid anymore! If this seems like a super easy solutions, that’s because it is.
