Video interviews are becoming more and more common as technology improves and remote-work becomes more common. In the post below, you’ll find some tips that should help you dominate your next Skype interview and land that dream job. Whether you’re new to the idea of Skype interviews or you’ve done plenty of them in the past, the tips on this list should help you feel more confident next time you do get asked to do one.
Let’s dive right into the post, shall we? When you’re done reading through it, please be sure to share the link to this page with your friends and neighbors at your community of apartments in Greenway Plaza.
Pay attention to your background
You wouldn’t have to think about your background in a normal interview, but in a Skype interview, it’s as important as your outfit. The perfect background is more interesting than a blank wall, but not so complicated that it distracts your interviewer. Make sure all the screens are off bhind you, and that any pets are put away. If you want to really impress your interviewer, you can set up your background so that it matches or compliments your outfit!
Record yourself ahead of time
The nice thing about a Skype interview is that you can record yourself ahead of time and see exactly what you’ll look like to the person conducting the interview. When you’re practicing, be sure to look at the camera instead the screen. When you look at the screen, it appears to the interviewer as though you’re looking down at your keyboard. It’s hard to act natural while looking at the camera, but it’s the only way to make it look like you’re making eye-contact.
You want to do whatever you can to avoid experiencing technical issues during your Skype interview. One of the most common — and easily avoided — technical issues is echoing. This happens when your computer’s microphone picks up feedback from the speaker, and it makes it almost impossible to understand what either speaker is saying. Fortunately, there’s an easy fix!
All you have to do is plug in a pair of earbuds. It’s going to feel a little weird to have earbuds in during an interview, but it’ll be fine if you explain the reasoning to your interviewer ahead of time.
