Healthy Sleep Tips from your Greenway Plaza Apartments

Do you wake up rested every day at your Greenway Plaza apartments? We’ve provided residents with a community that’s both comfortable and quiet, but we know there are still plenty of residents that struggle with getting a good night’s sleep. We’ve all been there, and we’ve all tried to deal with it in different ways. Maybe you started listening to podcasts while in bed, or maybe you’ve started putting your phone out of reach so you can’t use it in bed. If you’ve tried to make changes but are still struggling with sleep, you’ve come to the right place.


This week’s blog post is filled with tips and tricks that you can use to get a better night’s sleep, every night. These tips only work if you turn them into habits, so try each of them for a couple weeks and see if it doesn’t change your relationship with sleep!

Don’t toss and turn all night


Here’s a little secret: staying in bed isn’t the best way to fall asleep. If you can’t fall asleep after 20 minutes, get out of bed and read a book or magazine in your living room. You can come back to the bed once you feel tired again. Staying awake for an hour in bed won’t get you any closer to sleep. The more you lie there awake, the more your mind will begin to race as you think about how early you have to wake up the next day. Don’t force it; just get out of bed and try again after a few minutes of reading.


Set a 30-minute timer


If you’re someone who uses their laptop and smartphone all evening, you’re going to have to set up a system that forces you to put those devices down. We recommend setting a timer that goes off 30 minutes before you want to go to bed. When that timer goes off, the electronics have to go off too. Make sure your morning alarm is set on your phone and put it face down on your nightstand. If anyone needs a reply to an email or text, they’ll have to wait. Your sleep is more important!


Don’t force yourself to go to bed


This last tips is somewhat related to the first tip. You want your bed to be a place that you go when you’re tired, not a place that you go just because the clock says it’s late. If you’re not tired, stay out of your bed! Instead of forcing yourself to go to bed, do things throughout the day that will help you feel more tired at night. We recommend working out more, or waking up earlier to workout.
