Living in Houston means constantly being tempted to try new restaurants. Our community of apartments in Upper Kirby is located near some of the best restaurants in town, and you can easily drain your bank account by trying all the restaurants in the area. That would not be good, so we want to help you avoid spending all your money on dining out. This week’s post contains some tips you can use to cut your bill in half next time you go out to eat. While your bill still won’t be cheaper than what you would have spent cooking for yourself — read: nothing — it will be low enough where you might be able to afford to go out to eat more than once per month. It won’t be easy to follow this advice, and you’ll have to make some sacrifices, but the end result is totally worth it. You know that feeling you get when the bill arrives at the table and you’re scared to even flip it over? If you follow the advice in this week’s blog, you can avoid having that feeling ever again.
Take a peek at the list of money-saving tips below, and remember to share the link to this post with your friends and neighbors at your community of apartments in Greenway Plaza.
Learn to say no
It's the waiters job to get you to order more food and drinks. They’re going to ask you if you want to start with an appetizer. They’ll ask if you want a refill. They’ll even ask if you want to add waffle for an extra $2 when you order your burger.
If you get in the habit of saying yes to all these questions, you better get used to paying more for your meal than you expected. However, if you learn to say no, you can save some serious cash. The first things you need to say no to are drinks and appetizers. Avoiding those two things will save you at least $15 per meal when you go out to eat.
Take your food to go
While there are some restaurants out there that are known more for their ambiance than their food, most restaurants are popular because they serve amazing dishes. If you want to try a new restaurant, get your food to go. You’ll save money by not having to tip, and you won’t be tempted to order additional food. Yes, you’ll have to eat your food at home instead of in the restaurant, but you’ll quickly realize that this method of trying new restaurants isn’t so bad.
Order off the appetizer menu
It’s okay to order apps if that’s the only thing you’re going to order. In fact, it’s often preferable to ordering off the entree menu. The appetizer menu is usually more affordable, and it also comes with larger servings. Give it a shot next time you go out!
With that, we’ve reached the end of our money-saving blog! We hope you’re able to use the advice in this post to spend less every time you go out to eat.
